Darius Rucker Receives Harry Chapin Memorial Humanitarian Award

On Tuesday, May 7th, American singer-songwriter, and longtime lead vocalist of Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker, will recieve the Harry Chapin Memorial Humanitarian Award at the 2019 Music Biz Awards and Hall of Fame dinner at the JW Marriott in downtown Nashville. Created in 1981, this award recognizes artists and musicians for their philanthropic and charity work, and honors the legacy of Harry Chapin - A Folk-Rock singer-songwriter who fought to end world hunger, received Congressional Gold Medal in 1987, and co-founded the charitable organization World Hunger Year.

Rucker has supported many charitable organizations such as ACM Lifting Lives, Fisher House Foundation, Red Cross, MusiCares, Save The Music Foundation, Special Olympics, and more. He has helped raised milliions of dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN through his annual Darius and Friends concert and golf tournament and has also raised funds for more than 200 organizations focused on public education and youth golf programs through the foundation Hootie's Homegrown Roundup.

Past recipients of the Chapin Memorial Humanitarian Award include Martina McBride, Melissa Etheridge, Annie Lennox, and Jackson Browne. On May 30th of this year, Darius Rucker and his band Hootie & the Blowfish are set to begin thier first tour together since 2008 in Virginia Beach, VA called the 2019 Group Therapy Tour that will run through September 13th, 2019.
