Country Stars Unite Against Hurricane Harvey
The country music community is rallying in support of Hurricane Harvey relief efforts--check out what your favorite stars have done to help!
George Strait
The King of Country was born in Poteet, Texas and has family and friends personally affected by the storm. On August 29th, he tweeted that he is “working on putting together relief efforts with the whole country music community.”
Josh Abbott Band
This Texan country group is selling hurricane relief t-shirts for $30. All proceeds of the “My Texas” t-shirts will be donated to organizations assisting in Hurricane Harvey relief. Josh Abbott has already raised $40,000 through this initiative.
Kacey Musgraves
Another native Texan is selling her “Texas Rope Tee” for $25 in support of the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Musgraves also manned phone lines at Nashville’s American Red Cross this week to collect donations for Harvey relief efforts.
Miranda Lambert
This country star started her non-profit MuttNation with her mother in 2009, helping dogs find homes and raising awareness on the joy in adopting shelter pets. Her organization is now in the Houston area helping animals in need, and has already rescued over 100 dogs. Lambert has been traveling between Oklahoma and Texas to personally assist relief efforts. She has set up drop-off locations for pet supplies donations in Tennessee, Texas, and Oklahoma. People can also support by means of financial donations or shopping on Amazon to buy supplies that will ship straight to MuttNation efforts.
RaeLynn and Company
On September 6th, RaeLynn, Fowler, O’Toole, Wolfe, Joe Nichols, Jerrod Niemann, and Morgan Wallen are planned to play a benefit at John T. Floore’s in Helotes, Texas. Tickets will be $10 at the "Texas Strong Hurricane Harvey Relief Concert" with all proceeds going straight to relief efforts. There will be a silent auction with autographed merchandise and flyaway trips on site, as well as a food bank to accept donations.
Lady Antebellum
This Grammy winning group has donated $44,000 in merchandise sales to the effort, all from their recent show in Dallas.
Luke Combs
"Hurricane" singer has donated $10,000 to Samaritan's Purse, an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization, in their mission to support rebuilding efforts in Houston.
Chris Young
This country singer with a home in Texas has started a GoFoundMe campaign for Red Cross, to which he has donated $100,000. So far, the campaign has raised almost $400,000 of his $500,000 goal. He has more plans though, saying "I’ve got other things I’m already working on with radio, and a lot of other things that are going to take time to actually get going."
Alan Jackson
This country legend said, “I’ve toured a lot over the years in east Texas, played the Houston Rodeo 23 times and I hate to see what’s happening down there.” In response, Jackson has started a five-day initiative (Aug. 31st-Sept. 4th) at his honky-tonk restaurant on Lower Broadway, AJ’s Good Time Bar. For every item sold, $1 will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund through The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
