Josh Gallagher’s Rally To Nashville In Wake Of Tornado.

Cars totaled, businesses and homes destroyed. The number of missing, injured and dead persons rising as new cases are confirmed. Tens of thousands of residents left without power while being subjected to the potential danger presented by gas leaks. These are the devastating effects caused by deadly tornadoes that ripped through Nashville on Tuesday night.

We all woke up grieving for everyone who’s suffering and Josh Gallagher is no exception.

Putting pen to paper, Gallagher took to his guitar and expressed the toll of this heart-breaking, natural disaster and the need for Nashville to stand strong together.

In times like this, we either challenge or succumb to our own ideas of fate. Be it due to the concept of fate itself or the heroic efforts of our first responders, some of us escaped more fortunate than others last night. However, some of our neighbours are left picking up the pieces, and rummaging through the fallen debris of their broken homes with a daunting journey ahead of them. This is where Josh Gallagher calls upon the very thing that gives Nashville its soul - our community. Our people. Our neighbours, helping neighbours motto that we’ve all grown to encourage and adopt. And nothing screams Nashville more than a crisis we will overcome by using that very motto. So, let’s gather some inspiration from Josh Gallagher’s salute to our first responders and follow their example by giving our less fortunate neighbours the strength to dust themselves off and start again.

Look for volunteer organisations around your local area where you can donate your time and money to help with the clean up. Here are some organisations to get you started:

1. Hands On Nashville is organising a clean up for Saturday March 7th. If you’d like to volunteer, you can sign up to this event and be notified of further volunteer opportunities on their website: www.hon.org.

2. www.nashvilletnstore.com are selling “I Believe in Nashville” T-shirts where 100% of profits will be donated to the tornado victims. Get buying!

3. The Community of Middle Tennessee is collecting donations to help the affected areas in Nashville. To donate, go to www.cfmt.org.

4. The Community Resource Center is gathering trash bags, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products for the clean up. Donate your items at 218 Omohundro Place, Nashville TN 37210.

5. Only One Tailoring has opened their doors to collect canned food, water, pet supplies, and clothing donations. To donate, visit them at 2506 8th Avenue South 37204.

In the meantime, be sure to keep safe. Below are some general precautions to take while checking out any damage following a tornado:

1. Wear durable clothing that covers your skin.

2. Watch out for fallen power lines and damaged gas lines and report them to the utility company immediately.

3. Take pictures of any damage affecting you for insurance purposes.

4. Do not use candles, only battery-powered flashlights, if needed.

5. Follow the advice of your local authorities.

6. If needed, plan for alternative accommodation and prepare multiple travel routes using a map, consider traffic and road obstructions.

7. Carry cash and essentials, such as non-perishable foods and water.

8. If you smell gas or hear a hissing noise, leave the area immediately and contact the fire department.

9. Focus on the positives and understand that recovery takes time.
